This beautiful Icon*, written by local Artisan, Teresa Danovich, depicts the image, historically titled “The Harrowing of Hell” which dates back centuries. The icon is on a 12″ x 16″ Canvas and depicts a visual metaphor for the mercy that God offers to all people, to all sinners who, in genuine repentance and humility, are lifted up out of darkness.
*Icons are religious images that depict scripture. Icons have their roots in the early church and stemmed from a time when people could not read. The messages of scripture are conveyed through the images, making scripture accessible to all people. Thus, Icons are termed “written” and not “painted”. Icons use a language all their own to reveal a deeper meaning. Icons are typically not signed by the writer.
